Color & Pray - Saint Ephraim

Children may be shocked to learn that in his youth, this beloved 4th century saint had a bad reputation for being a hot-tempered trouble-maker! Eventually, after being wrongfully accused of stealing and being thrown in jail, he came to his senses and wanted to turn his life around. Upon being released, he ran away to the mountains and joined a group of Syrian Christian ascetics. What a blessing for us all that he chose to follow God's will, as centuries later, Christians would continue to find profound wisdom and comfort in his teachings, his poetry, and his hymns. 

Saint Ephraim's charity, humble life, and his teachings, clearly point us to our Creator and Lord. The simple prayer, handwritten on this coloring page, is one that we like to start our day with and repeat throughout the day. Meditate on it as you add lively, vibrant colors and adornments. Spend some quiet time with your little one, being creative, reflecting, and committing these words to memory together. 

Prayer of Saint Ephraim:

"O Lord and Master of my life, grant me not a spirit of sloth, despondency, love of power, and idle talk.

But give to me, your servant, a spirit of sober-mindedness, humility, patience, and love.

Yes, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own faults and not to judge my brother, since you are blessed to the ages of ages. Amen."
